As Cusco is the capital of an
extensive region with an approximate population of one and a
half million who reside in various urban and rural areas. The
state and private sectors are working toward the integral
development of these many communities. This process requires the
participation of many people, especially those that desire to
collaborate in helping social organizations in their efforts
toward improving the quality of life.
In this spirit, Cabildo Travel and Tourism has organized a group
of assistants and professionals who have a desire to visit Cusco
and at the same time participate in social development projects.
Living in Cusco and contributing to its development makes for an
enriching experience. It is also a direct and active way of
getting to know the city.
If you are a student or professional and you have the desire to
enroll in a professional practicum, assistantship or volunteer
program in Cusco, we have made arrangements with the following
institutions:
Psycho Study Consultants:
An institution dedicated to professional consulting in
the areas offered to assistants.
ONGD “Centro RUNA”:
An institution dedicated to social work and education in the
same areas.
These institutions in social work have operated for more than
ten years in Cusco. They afford us counseling to arrange for the
best conditions for assistants and practitioners.
As a professional consultant in Cusco, you have the opportunity
to become acquainted with the city’s customs, traditions and to
integrate yourself into the society.
You will receive accreditation that will enhance your
professional career. You will have the chance to help social
groups who need your assistance. The assistantship will allow
you to gain proficiency in the Spanish language. You will be
able to tour the region during your free time.
Procedure:
If you are interested, our agency will arrange for you to
fulfill your assistantship, practice or volunteer work in an
institution that can be an ONGD, a Peruvian state institution or
a private one. You should send us your resume and required
documents. We will assist you in securing the appropriate
situation that meets your needs.

Duration:
. minimum assignment: three months
. maximum assignment: one year
Lodging:
Our agency will arrange for a hostel that will meet your needs.
In addition, we will coordinate all which is necessary to assure
a safe and comfortable stay.
Supervision and monitoring:
Our agency will coordinate with the institution in which you are
practicing or assisting, in order to have adequate assistance
and supervison.
To finalize the process, we will coordinate with your practice
or assistance center and submit a certificate of credit for your
participation and contribution.
Our agency will assign a monitor or tutor who will be available
to offer you assistance and to orient you during your stay.
Certification:
Upon completing your practice or volunteer assignment you will
receive certification issued by the institution that supervised
your work.
Requirements:
To be a graduate student with a bachelorīs degree or to be
licensed in one of the areas previously mentioned;
To be willing to do social service work;
To present your curriculum vitae;
To be in physical condition adequate to perform the work in the
situation you desire;
There is no age limit. If you have family, you can live with
them here in Cusco. If you do not speak Spanish, you will have
the chance to learn the language during your stay.
Important
The assistant and volunteer programs are a service of our
agency. We organize and coordinate the entire process with
entities with whom we have a working agreement. The possibility
of securing an assistant or volunteer position is relatively
limited. Therefore, you should coordinate you plans
in advance.
Those who wish to become an assistant in Cusco should follow a
contract agreement outlining the conditions of service and
stipulating the details of the process.

1. Where would I live?
In most situations, we will arrange a living situation where you
can spend your time with a family in Cusco who will help you
become acquainted with the customs of the city. However, if you
wish to become an assistant and desire to live with your own
family, we will find an apartment that meets your needs.
2. How often is counseling available?
In the normal process, we hope that the professionals who work
with us meet with an adviser at least once a week. If necessary,
we can provide additional assistance.The adviser will help
assistants to develop in the area of their assistantship and
will aid those with any personal difficulties or needs.
3. How much will it cost to be an assistant or volunteer?
Costs vary in each individual case according to the living
situation and the services that you require. Normally, there is
no renumeration. Those interested should be prepared to cover
the cost of their own expenses.
Cabildo Travel charges a reasonable commission for the service
of arranging a situation. This arrangement is through the
institutions with whom you have an agreement. There is no
payment to the institution for the arrangement, only the
commission to our agency for the services outlined.
4. What happens if a person encounters problems and wishes to
change assignments or suspend their practice?
In this case, you will bear only the costs that haveaccumulated
up until that point. If you wish to change institutions or
organizations, this change will be effected in no more than
fifteen days.
5. How long will it take to negotiate an assistantship in
Cusco?
The time period is estimated at two to three months,
depending on the search, negotiations with institutions and the
assignment in which you have an interest.
